Welcome to the Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster Awards 2018
A word from Britain's Energy Coast Business Cluster (BECBC) Chairman Ivan Baldwin:
This year's Business Awards seem to have come around rapidly and I think that's a comment on just how busy the past year has been for Britain's Energy Coast Business Cluster.
It's been a year when our strapline of Cumbrian collaboration with global reach has steered our activities and when the Board and our member companies have taken new initiatives to develop our contribution to the region, to the UK and to international developments.
One of my BECBC highlights has been the creation of what was originally the Shadow Board. The eight young professionals recruited into this group rapidly developed a way of working that has already seen an innovative November members' meeting, the first of several social events and a new Business Award category. I'm looking forward to seeing this group have even more impact in 2019.
It has also been great to work with a long-time friend of the Business Cluster and of West Cumbria, Professor John Fyfe CBE. We celebrated John's appointment as our Honorary Patron at the AGM and he has already been a huge help in brokering new connections in South Korea, Japan and the USA.
We've seen the award-winning Business and Schools Collaboration Project take flight, working with Inspira to create "encounters with enterprise" for over 3500 local school students. We've signed Memoranda of Understanding with clusters in Spain and in South Korea and are exploring opportunities for collaboration with them. And we've joined the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, developing links across the country as well as closer to home with Cumbria LEP.
A particular thank you goes to tonight's main sponsor, Sellafield Ltd. Its Supply Chain team is a major contributor to our meetings and it's been encouraging to see members getting involved in road shows and other supply chain events to create new business relationships for the future. Thank you to Martin Chown and his team for all their work on this as well as their broader BECBC support.
All in all, it's been a year to celebrate and I hope that you'll join me in doing that tonight. Enjoy your evening and may the best companies and collaborations win.
